The Predicament with Traditional MPIs
Highlighting potential issues on a customer’s vehicle is a crucial part of the Fixed Ops process, but with traditional MPIs, the urgency and importance can get lost in translation. Without visual proof, a customer may view repair recommendations as a means for shops and dealerships to unnecessarily upsell them, especially if they came in for a basic maintenance task like an oil change.
Cars break; there is nothing we can do about this. Many parts of a car (brakes, tires, rotors, etc.) last a finite amount of time and have to be replaced. It is often these normal, “consumable” parts of a car that shops are accused of unecessarily upselling.
In reality, customers feel blindsided because they may not realize their tires are bald or their brakes are metal-to-metal.
